Key Organisations

  • Visit Britain www.visitbritain.org
In April 2003 the British Tourist Authority joined with the English Tourism Council to form one organisation,  VisitBritain.  VisitBritain is responsible for promoting Britain overseas, and England to the domestic market (through Enjoy England). VisitBritain aims to boost Britain's income from tourism through professional and effective marketing, and to provide a framework within which the tourism industry can work together.

  • VisitBritain promotes Britain internationally in 36 markets and England in Britain, France, Germany, Netherlands and Ireland.

  • Enjoy England www.enjoyengland.com

Enjoy England is the official tourist board for England and part of VisitBritain. Its mission is to grow the value of tourism throughout the English regions.

SEEDA is the Regional Development Agency set up in 1999 responsible for the economic and social development of the South East of England. SEEDA is the principal public funder of Tourism South East, the strategic tourism body for the South East of England.

The nine Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) in England are non-departmental bodies whose primary role is to act as strategic drivers of economic development in their region. The RDAs are now key players with Government in the strategic leadership of tourism, working both individually and with one another, as well as with regional and local partners. This is more than a transfer of responsibilities - tourism has been recognised as a driver of regional economies. In line with Government guidance on RDAs' Regional Economic Strategies, the RDAs are encouraged to place tourism at the centre of their economic strategy development, by making links with other regional strategies, e.g. for regeneration, skills development, transport and planning. The RDAs are currently developing and/or implementing Regional Sustainable Tourism Strategies.
