Virginia Wade, one of England's greatest tennis players, graduated in mathematics from the University of Sussex in 1967. Her achievements included winning the Wimbledon ladies Singles title in 1977.
Arts Council Policy: Internationalism
The Arts Council's actions are to
- Expand opportunities for artists and arts organisations to work internationally, contributing to Englands role as a cultural world leader, by implementing our international policy
- Enable Liverpool to present itself as a premier European city as Capital of Culture in 2008, providing long-term growth and sustainability for the arts by supporting regional, national and international partnerships
- Contribute to early planning for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games 2012 and to the Beijing closing ceremony in 2008
