A SEE-IN partner

Who we work with

English Heritage works in partnership with a huge number of organisations, from government agencies right through to small voluntary partnerships. In contrast to some other cultural agencies our links and partnerships spread right across most government departments, due in part to our statutory role in the planning system. We therefore work particularly closely with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

Regionally, through these partnerships, our relationships spread even further to include  Culture South East; Government Office for the South East; South East England Development Agency;, and other cultural agencies such as Museums,Lbraries and Archives Council, South East, Arts Council England, South East,  Tourism South East and Sport England, South East. We also ensure we work constructively with

  • those responsible for the region's World Heritage Sites and nominee sites
  • National Park and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty management bodies
  • local authorities on both conservation and cultural issues
  • those responsible for Rural Towns Initiatives in the region
  • any local trust or voluntary sector group requiring our expert advice
  •  any other person involved in local decision making, such as councillors, MPs and peers.

English Heritage, through its role in the planning system also seeks to work in effective partnership with the private sector, including architects, developers and those responsible for care and maintenance of historic assets (usually in private ownership).

Historic Environment Forum

English Heritage has established Historic Environment Forums in each region so that as a sector those concerned with the historic environment can combine their expertise and wield an influence greater than the sum of their parts. The Forum aims to:

  1. provide coordinated leadership across the sector;
  2. provide an understanding and appreciation of the social, economic and environmental value of the historic environment
  3. develop & review policy for the historic environmen
  4. act as a consultative group on historic environment issues
  5. gather and share intelligence, information and best practice
  6. provide coordinated responses to proposals concerning the historic environment
  7. develop an integrated and sustained approach to the marketing of the historic environment
  8. seek resources in a coordinated way, making the most of opportunities for collaboration.
