Finding and promoting new talent, be it individuals or companies, constitutes Screen Souths main aim. Screen South fosters hubs of production and development activity, working in alliance with existing organisations where available, and providing facilities directly where necessary.
Screen South will ensure new talent is exposed to the best current industry practice whether it be pitching workshops, script development or business advice. It will facilitate access to funding for film production, for broadcast and distribution as well as assist with marketing, distribution and exhibition.
Screen South promotes the appreciation of film and other screen-based media to communities across the South East region. Through its delivery partners, Oxford Film & Video Makers in Oxford, Lighthouse in Brighton and City-Eye in Southampton, Screen South is able to encourage film appreciation at all levels, as well as community filmmaking for all ages. Regular networking events are held. A diverse range of training schemes contributes to the skills development. Along with its delivery partners, Screen South also aims to bring affordable film and video to other community organisations and disadvantaged groups.
Screen South will identify commercial opportunities that contribute to the development of regional companies. Through its regular Trade Mission initiatives Screen South actively supports overseas business and international partnerships, a vital aspect to successful economic development for business across the region.
Screen South's Film Commission office, based at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, works with industry and regional partners to generate inward investment and employment in the region. A large feature film will employ between and 650 to 1000 people at the height of production. In 2004 the South East film industry saw at least 4,100 jobs directly sustained throughout the region. Screen South also heads regular trade missions to promote the region's filmmaking talent and skills to countries including the
Screen South supports over 15 Film Festivals across the region, as well as the creation and development of local cinemas, particularly in under-served localities. This is turn facilitates access and widens the choice for audiences. Educational projects and initiatives are designed to develop the quality and availability of media education. Through our Archive delivery partners, South East Film and Video Archive in and Wessex Film and Sound archive, Screen South facilitates access to our film and moving image heritage.
