The Paralympic Movement has its origins in the South East when neurologist Sir Ludwig Guttman organised the first wheelchair Games at Stoke Mandeville Hospital to coincide with the 1948 London Olympics.
Regeneration in European cities
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation has published new research based on case studies of major urban regeneration schemes and draws conclusions for UK policy and practice. They look at the approaches taken to urban regeneration and economic restructuring, and explore the connections between the physical transformation of the run-down areas and improvements to the prospects of local people, especially those who were adversely affected by the industrial decline.
