The Leander Club at Henley-on-Thames is the world's oldest and most renowed rowing club. Founded in 1818, the club moved from London to Henley later in the 19th century because of the importance of the annual Henley Regatta. The Leander Club colour is pink.
What is an observatory?
At its simplest level, an observatory is a place from which to observe something. Astronomical observatories are facilities built to command a wide view of the sky, or to look in-depth at its particular features.
Here at the Southeast Cultural Observatory we aim to do something similar for the cultural sector. We aim to:
- look at the broad scope of how the cultural sector is structured e.g. its key organisations, policies and mechanisms
- look at how the cultural sector fits with and influences other "sectors" e.g. local government, health organisations
- focus on themes where we can identify the positive impact of culture e.g. learning and skills
