Around 400 of the globes greatest archers will descend on Dover this summer to take part in the prestigious World Cup Archery competition - the first time it has ever been held in the United Kingdom.
The South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) is supporting the event, which will showcase Kent and the wider South East region to an international audience as a world-class destination for sports events, a key business investment location, and the gateway to Europe and beyond.
More than 30 countries will be taking part in the event, being held in the first week of August at the Duke of YorkҒs Royal Military School, and it is anticipated it will bring an additional 515,000 into the South East economy , providing direct benefits to many of the regionҳ tourism and hospitality, food and drink and leisure businesses.
Lindsey Horton, SEEDA Major Sports Events Manager, said: ӓIt is a wonderful opportunity for us to demonstrate to the world that Dover is not only the place you go to in order to catch a ferry and go to the Continent it is a tourism destination in its own right with its beautiful castle, heritage and wonderful scenery.
֓In the same way that the recent Tour de France helped put the South East on the international sporting map, World Cup Archery will also demonstrate the regions ability to stage a major competition in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics.
As part of SEEDAҒs Regional Economic Strategy for the South East 20062016, agencies and key partners from across the region recently developed and launched the ֓South East Offer for 2012: Compete, Create, Collaborate, setting out key priorities to ensure that the opportunities presented by the 2012 Games are maximised to the region as a whole.
