Background
Medway Council was in the third round of authorities to develop Local Area Agreements (LAAs). Their 2007 LAA reflects the importance of culture and sport to a range of priority local outcomes, including healthier communities and older people, safer and stronger communities, and economic development and enterprise.

Healthier Communities and Older People
Outcome: Enable people to remain healthy and independent especially older people and other vulnerable groups - Develop a comprehensive model for prevention and treatment of obesity

Safer, Stronger and Greener Communities
Outcome: Empower local people to have greater participation in local affairs - Empower local people to have greater choice and influence over local decision making and a greater role in public service delivery

Outcome: Cherish and enhance Medway’s urban and rural heritage and the important resources of open space, countryside and wildlife habitats - Cleaner, greener and safer public spaces
