The Children's Plan

The Children’s Plan aims to make England the best place in the world for children and young people to grow up.

Building on Every Child Matters, it sets out government’s plans for further reform of services for families, children and young people over the next ten years. It is structured around the six DCSF strategic objectives.

The Children’s Plan recognises the importance of culture and sport in improving the lives of children and young people. It sets out specific proposals to:

It also acknowledges the contribution to educational achievement that cultural and sporting opportunities can make through London 2012 and the extended schools offer.

Goals for 2020 include:

  • all children able to enjoy an active childhood, with safe places to play independently
  • all young people participating in positive activities to develop personal and social skills, promote wellbeing and reduce behaviour that puts them at risk.
