Examples of local performance indicators - strengthening communities and involving people

The following examples of indicators for strengthening communities and involving people have been taken from Sustainable Community Strategies up to the end of 2007 and round 1-3 Local Area Agreements:

  • The percentage of young people/the adult population involved in at least one hour of volunteer work per week to support cultural or sporting activity.
  • The number of young people undertaking training to act as volunteers in the organisation of leisure time activities within their own communities.
  • The proportion of people over 60 ( or from other priority groups) engaged in cultural and sport volunteering opportunities
  • The number of hours volunteering offered at open space/sports/ culture facilities.
  • The number/percentage of local authority parks obtaining a Green pennant award.
  • The percentage of young people/adults that are satisfied or very satisfied with cultural, play and sports provision in their local area.
  • Percentage of residents who think that for their local area, over the past three years, that:
    – cultural facilities (e.g. cinemas, museums)
    – sports and leisure facilities
    – parks and open spaces
    – access to nature
    – activities for teenagers
    – facilities for young children
    have got better or stayed the same.
  • The percentage of children, young people and parents satisfied with the quality of cultural, play and sports activities.
  • The percentage of public facilities in a local area obtaining quality marks/accreditation:
    – Quest (arts, sport or leisure facilities)
    – Green Flag award (parks and open spaces)
    – Blue Flag award (beaches).
