Examples of local performance indicators - economic prosperity and employment

The following examples of indicators for economic prosperity and employment have been taken from Sustainable Community Strategies up to the end of 2007 and round 1-3 Local Area Agreements:

  • Number of new employment opportunities in sport, the creative industries, play, culture and tourism.
  • Number of employees in sport and cultural sector (in priority areas). 
  • Economic impact of the cultural sector/creative industries.
  • The number of carnivals, exhibitions and events that are held.
  • Value of staying/day visitors/tourists.
  • Number of visitors to (named) visitor attractions.
  • Financial turnover of creative industries.
  • Number of creative businesses supported.
  • The percentage of employers and employees who adopt and promote physical activities programmes in the workplace or undertake healthy activities in the workplace as measured through employer programmes.
  • Amount of Brownfield land developed for leisure and community facilities .
  • The completion of key cultural infrastructure projects.
  • Number of businesses engaged by Olympic 2012 Business Support.
  • Number of accommodation providers across all sectors participating in Quality Assurance schemes.
  • Mean quality rating of tourist accommodation. 
  • Number of attractions that are signed up to a visitor’s charter.
  • Number of hotels/attractions that have achieved accessible standards (above minimum requirements).
