Print friendly version

The Active People Survey is a national survey commissioned by Sport England and conducted across every local authority in England. A total of 363,724 telephone interviews of adults (16 years and over) were completed between October 2005 and October 2006. Active People is now a continuous annual survey, with a sample of 500 adults in each authority surveyed each year.

Detailed information is available for every local authority area for the following performance indicators:

  • The percentage of the adult population participating in at least 30 minutes of sport and active recreation (including walking and cycling) of at least moderate intensity on at least 3 days a week
  • The percentage of the adult population involved in at least one hour of volunteer work per week to support sporting activity
  • The percentage of the adult population who are members of a sports club or club where they do sport
  • The percentage of the adult population who have received tuition from an instructor or coach
  • The percentage of the adult population who have taken part in organised competitive sport
  • The percentage of the adult population that are satisfied or very satisfied with sports provision in their local area
