The Audit Commission’s Area Profiles capture data from Best Value Performance Indicators, CIPFA surveys and a limited number of other national data sets. They can be viewed under quality of life themes or LAA themes. The following LAA themes have performance indicators and data by local authority area:

Children and Young People

  • % of residents who think that, over the past three years, that facilities for young children have got better or stayed the same.
  • % of residents who think that for their local area, over the past three years, that activities for teenagers have got better or stayed the same.

Safer and Stronger Communities

  • % of the population living within 1 mile of a public library
  • Active library borrowers as a % of the population
  • Number of workstations at public libraries per 10,000 population
  • % of public libraries that provide public access to ICT facilities connected to the internet
  • % of the population that are within 20 minutes travel time (urban - walking; rural - driving) of a range of 3 different sports facility types, at least one of which has achieved a quality mark.
  • % of residents who think that for their local area, over the past three years, that sports and leisure facilities have got better or stayed the same.
  • % of residents who think that for their local area, over the past three years, that parks and open spaces have got better or stayed the same.
  • % of residents who think that over the past three years, that cultural facilities (e.g. cinemas, museums) have got better or stayed the same.
  • % of residents who think that for their local area, over the past three years, that access to nature has got better or stayed the same.
  • % length of footpaths and rights of way which are easy to use
  • % of the footway network which may require repair

Healthier Communities and Older People

  • % of the resident population who travel to work on foot or cycle
  • % of the daytime population who travel to work on foot or cycle
