Suggested performance indicators for culture and sport for inclusion within LAAs are shown below. Targets may be set for the community as a whole, for young people and/or for people from other priority or need to reach groups. Where suggested performance indicators form part of the National Indicator set the NI number is shown in brackets:
Culture and sport participation/visits/attendance
This indicator could also be applied to arts and creative activities.
- The percentage of 16-19 year olds participating in at least 3 hours per week of sporting opportunities (NI57). This indicator could also be applied to arts and creative activities.
- The percentage of the adult population (aged 16 and above) in a local area who participated in sport and active recreation, at moderate intensity, for at least 30 minutes on 3 or more days a week (NI8).
- The percentage of all children and young people (0-16 yrs) who play out for at least four hourseach week.
- The percentage of the adult (aged 16 plus) population in a local area who say they have used a public library service at least once in the last 12 months (NI9)
- The percentage of the adult (aged 16 plus) population in a local area who say they have attended a museum or art gallery at least once in the last 12 months (NI10)
- The percentage of the adult (aged 16 plus) population in a local area that have engaged in the arts at least three times in the past 12 months (NI11)
- The percentage of the adult (aged 16 plus) population in a local area that have visited a historic environment site at least once in the past 12 months
- The percentage of the adult (aged 16 plus) population in a local area that have used a park or open space at least once in the past 12 months.
These measures could also be related to attendance by particular priority groups.
Involvement in
volunteer work to support cultural or sporting activity.
The percentage of young people/the adult population involved in at least one hour of volunteer work per week to support cultural or sporting activity.
Achievement of a
recorded outcome or a recognised accredited certificate for skills based activities through culture and sport.
The number/proportion of young people (aged 5-19 and up to 24 for those with additional needs) or adults who participate in cultural and sport services/activities who achieve a recorded outcome or a recognised accredited certificate for skills based activities.
Take up of
adult learning opportunities through public libraries or other cultural and sports activities.
The number of adults taking up adult learning opportunities through public libraries (or other cultural and sport activities).
Availability of cultural and sports facilities for community use
The number of educational establishments with sports and/or cultural facilities available for community use.
Provision for young people by culture and sport voluntary and community organisations
The number of cultural and sport voluntary and community organisations (i.e. sports clubs, music societies, drama groups, conservation groups etc) who make specific provision for participation by young people.
The
economic impact of culture and sport.
- Number of jobs created in the creative and cultural industries and tourism.
- Value of day/staying visitors/tourists to the local economy.
- Economic impact of the cultural sector/creative industries.
Satisfaction with cultural and sports provision.
The percentage of young people/adults that are satisfied or very satisfied with cultural and sports provision in their local area.
The percentage of children satisfied with parks and play areas in their local area (NI199)
