The Taking Part survey is a continuous survey which was launched in July 2005. It was commissioned by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and its partner Non-Departmental Public Bodies (NDPBs). These include Arts Council England; English Heritage; Museums, Libraries and Archives Council and Sport England.
The survey collects data on participation in culture and sport and attendance at cultural and sports events by adults overall and by priority groups. It is also used to measure performance against the DCMS PSA targets on increasing participation in culture and sport.
The Taking Part survey has a sample size each year in excess of 28,000. It is a National Statistic and as such has been produced to the professional standards set out in the National Statistics Code of Practice. Taking Part survey results are available at a national and regional level only.
