The South East is one of Europe’s most successful economies. But it has to achieve global competitiveness, smart growth and sustainable prosperity if it is to secure its place as a world class region achieving sustainable prosperity.

The cultural and creative industries in the South East are vital in maintaining sustainable economic growth. They encourage innovation, enterprise and entrepreneurship. They also employ 13% of the regional workforce and contribute an annual turnover of more than £46 billion to the region’s economic output.

The region boasts the largest tourism market in the UK outside Greater London. The diversity of its natural and built heritage and location help make the South East a unique visitor destination. It has significant untapped potential for further tourism related growth.

The contribution of culture, sport and creative industries to a wide range of economic objectives is recognised in the Regional Economic Strategy.
