Health and well being

Print friendly version

The South East is one of the healthiest and most affluent regions in England. But there are inequalities in health between different geographical areas and groups of people. The region needs to improve health and well being and reduce health inequalities if it is to achieve its goal to become the healthiest place to live in the UK and one of the healthiest regions in Europe.

Participation in play, sport and physical activity contribute to the health of children, families and communities. They can help reduce childhood obesity and improve health outcomes for children, young people and adults. They can also help improve health in the workplace and reduce sickness, increasing the positive relationship between employment and health.

The South East England Health Strategy sets out the region’s health priorities. It recognises Local Area Agreements as important mechanisms for improving health.
