South East Education, Skills and Employment for London 2012

Print friendly version

The South East Education, Skills, Employment for London 2012 (SEESEL) network has developed an action plan to deliver on three key objectives:

  •  Inspiring young people – use London 2012 related themes to inspire skills development amongst young people
  • Business skills – support South East employers to contribute to London 2012, by supporting the development of employability and business skills amongst the existing workforce and those wishing to enter employment
  • Community learning – to encourage people to develop their knowledge and skills in ways that enable them to contribute and benefit from the 2012 mission, through paid and unpaid work and through engaging in learning in their communities, giving priority to those who would not normally take up more conventional skills development opportunities.

A range of activities will deliver the SEESEL 2012 Action Plan, including three ‘gems’:

  • Building on the region’s Skills Festivals, use the Olympic themes to encourage youngsters in the region to strive for ‘elite trainee’ status for the WorldSkills 2011
  • Launch a ‘South East 2012 Skills Charter’ to help address skills deficits in key Olympic related sectors and ensure that the region maximises on opportunities associated with the 2012 Games
  • Building on Get Active 2012, use the power of the Games to engage communities, particularly hard-to-reach communities and families into sports and other cultural programmes linked to local business and volunteer skills needs.
