Islam
The South East is home to Britain’s first purpose-built mosque at Woking, built from 1889-94, and the focus of Islam in Britain until mass-immigration in the 1960s shifted the centre further north.
Regional Initiatives
There are several cross-cultural initiatives active in the region and in the Greater South East which aim to ensure that cultural activity is planned for and integrated into the life of the region.
