Nice and Nasty
the Goodwin Sands lie off Deal and the strong winds and powerful currents ensure the sands are always shifting. Almost two thousand ships have met their deaths there. On the bright side, in summer at low tide there is an annual cricket match played on them.
Our purpose
Sport England is responsible for promoting and investing in sport, helping the government meet its sporting objectives and distributing both Lottery and Exchequer funds to sport.
Our vision is to make England an active and successful sporting nation. Read the Sport England mission statement. Our resources are allocated in order to meet our business objectives, getting people to:
- Start to improve the health of the nation, particularly for disadvantaged groups
- Stay through a thriving network of clubs, coaches and volunteers, and a commitment to equity
- Succeed in sport via an infrastructure capable of developing world class performers
