The aim of Swale Forward, as set out in its Interim Regeneration Framework is:
To achieve a transformation in SwaleӒs economic, social and environmental profile, so that it is one of the best places in Britain in which to live, work, learn and invest.
Central to this aim is the development of a strong and unique sense of place. The Framework identifies culture as an important factor in achieving it and states that it is imperative that ԓregeneration achieves excellence in cultural resources.
Cultural issues are predominantly dealt with under the strategic themes of ԓEconomic Development and ԓUrban Regeneration. The former includes ԓLeisure, culture and tourism development as one of three Project Fields. A particular emphasis is placed on developing ecotourism on the Isle of Sheppey; also mentioned are aspiration for heritage, arts and cultural led regeneration projects, and development of new sporting facilities linked to the 2012 Olympic Games.
The ԓUrban Regeneration theme includes the Arts & Regeneration Action Plan for Sittingbourne, and public realm improvements incorporating public art for Sheerness and Faversham town centres.
