Steve Redgrave was born on 23 March 1962, in Marlow. He is the British rower who won a gold medal at five consecutive Olympic Games from 1984 to 2000, as well as an additional bronze medal in 1988. As the only Briton ever to achieve this feat, he is widely considered to be Britain's greatest Olympian.

The Thames Gateway was identified as a Government priority for development  in1994. The Sustainable Communities Plan of 2003 the designated the Thames Gateway as the Government's flagship Growth Area.  The vision for the Thames Gateway, including 120,000 new homes, was further developed in  Creating Sustainable Communities: Delivering the Thames Gateway (ODPM 2005).

To deliver this vision, the Government has established 

  • the Thames Gateway Delivery Unit and Strategy Division, both based at the Department for Communities and Local Government
  • three sub-regional partnerhships
  • two urban development corporations
  • seven local regeneration partnerships.

Strategic direction is provided by the Thames Gateway Strategic Partnerhsip chaired by the Minister for Housing and Planning.

The Gateway area is divided into three sections, each of which is administered by a sub-regional partnerhsip. The sections are
