The success of the London 2012 Games will rely on the skills and experience of the 70,000 volunteers whom are expected to be recruited when LOCOG launch the Volunteer Programme for Games-time volunteers in 2010.
Back in June 2005, more than 80 volunteering organisations met together to sign a pledge to deliver up to 70,000 volunteers. Britain is second in Europe in volunteering - with 43 % of UK adults and 1 in 11 people living in the South East volunteering in some way but recruiting and organising the volunteers with the right skills mix and experience is a challenge.
