Nations and Regions

Nations and Regions
The Nations and Regions Group (NRG) comprises representatives from the 9 English regions and from the Devolved Administrations of Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as representatives from LOCOG, ODA, Visit Britain, the British Olympic Association and the Local Government Association.


It meets quarterly and provides:

  • leadership and strategic direction to maximise opportunities from the 2012 Games
  • co-ordination of regional activity across the UK
  • facilitates a UK-wide network to share best practice and join up initiatives
  • inspiration for communities and raises issues in relation to 2012.

This group works with LOCOG to deliver regional input in key themes such as; pre-Games training camps, volunteers, skills, tourism, culture and business engagement.

The South East is represented by Mary McAnally, Chair, Regional Sports Board South East and James Brathwaite, Chair, SEEDA


Each nation and region has established its own regional working structures, which include regional development agencies, sports, tourism and cultural bodies, local authorities, government offices for the regions and business representation. In the South East, this group is known as the South East Group for the 2012 Games.
