Starting Blocks

Over 130 delegates from schools, colleges, universities, local authority education, and lifelong and community learning providers from all over the South East came together at the University of Winchester for ‘STARTING BLOCKS’ - an introduction to the London 2012 Education Programme.

Over the course of the morning delegates were invited to explore the opportunity to engage and inspire young people that the Olympic and Paralympic Games offered, prior to the launch of the London 2012 education programme . The launch of the programme will take place on September 17th 2008.The morning’s event included:

  • Kathryn McColl, Education Officer for London 2012 outlining the London 2012 Education Programme
  • An introduction to the Cultural Olympiad and the wide ranging South East responses to the London 2012 Games.
  • Inspiring case studies and special guest speakers including Paralympian John Harris and Vicky Hope - Walker who reported on an inspiring art project linking Paralympians, deaf and disabled artists and pupils at mixed ability schools in Buckinghamshire.
