New Growth Points
The New Growth Points initiative articulates a partnership between central government and local partners with the aim of increasing the housing supply in a sustainable way, in line with existing regional spatial strategies.
What's happened so far:
- As a result of the Barker Review of Housing Supply, the New Growth Points initiative announced in Dec 2005
- The Government invited local authorities to submit sustainable growth proposals which would be assessed by certain criteria
- 29 places supported as New Growth Points accepted, to share 40 million in funding for 2007/08
- The terms of the partnership between central government and local partners is set out in a Written Ministerial Statement made to Parliament by Yvette Cooper on 24 October 2006.
